Dear Prayer Warriors,
I pray this message finds you well and deeply rooted in the peace of Christ. Thank you, as always, for standing with us in prayer during this season.
War & Conflict Update: Thailand–Cambodia Border
This Christmas season has been full and heavy in many ways. On Sunday and Monday, December 7–8, Khmer citizens received troubling news of renewed conflict along the Thai–Cambodian border. The Thai military moved into the area and evacuated Thai citizens, while fighter jets and bombings began impacting Cambodian land near the border. Because of this escalation, our YWAM Poipet base was evacuated. These are our brothers and sisters, people we serve alongside closely, partner with in ministry, and love deeply. Long-term missionaries were forced to leave the area due to the instability and danger, which has been heartbreaking for many of us. Our Poipet team was able to seek refuge and shelter here on the Siem Reap base, and we have maxed our housing capacity so much so that we are now temporarily renting 2 other homes to provide shelter and beds for our missionaries. Praise God for the ability to rent a space near us!
Despite the challenges, our Siem Reap team had been preparing for our Christmas outreach to communities affected by war in July 2025. By God’s grace, we were able to distribute 2,100 Christmas gifts to displaced children, these are kids who have been deeply impacted by conflict and loss. Seeing their joy, even in the midst of uncertainty, was a powerful reminder of God’s nearness.
During this time, we also began fundraising and responding to urgent needs as families were pushed out of border territories. An estimated 500,000+ people were displaced, moving inward in search of safety. The conflict has brought both military and civilian casualties, and some areas: including school zones, bridges used for food distribution, and civilian-populated regions, have been directly affected. This has caused deep pain and fear, and in some places has created mistrust toward neighboring nations. We continue to pray for healing, reconciliation, and the love of Jesus to cover both Thailand and Cambodia.
By God’s grace, our team has been able to distribute food, aid, and supplies to thousands of families. Each day, our base has shared the Gospel with families living in safety encampments set up by the Khmer people. Even in the midst of hardship, hearts have been open, and we have witnessed God moving in quiet and powerful ways.
Monk-umental Update (Hehe fun little pun)
At this time, many of the designated safe havens are pagodas, which are Buddhist temples. Normally, these spaces are considered areas where sharing the Gospel would not be permitted. However, due to the ongoing conflict and the thousands of people seeking refuge including monks and religious leaders, our teams have been welcomed to offer help, conversation, and prayer.
In this unexpected openness, we have had the privilege of speaking freely about Jesus, even engaging in meaningful conversations with Buddhist leaders and monks. We truly sense that God is stirring hearts during this time, and that many are open and ready to hear and learn about the love and hope found in Jesus.
A Personal Update
In the second week of the conflict, I had to return home for Christmas. My tickets were purchased back in November, before tensions escalated again, and leaving during such a fragile time felt incredibly difficult.
My heart has been transformed by God with such a deep love for this nation and the Khmer people. Leaving my Khmer community and missions team brought grief, and sadness. It felt like being torn between two worlds; the love of my family in California and the home God has given me here in Cambodia, with its people, friendships, village life, and ministry.
My team encouraged me to go home, sharing how time at home had refreshed them, and I trusted their wisdom. Once I arrived home, I didn’t realize how healing it would be. After eight months away, seeing my mom and being with family and friends filled my soul with gratitude. Those two weeks were busy, full, and deeply blessed. The time back home recharged my battery, and "wow God is such a good planner for these things!"
Team & Ministry Update
I am now back in Cambodia and so grateful to jump right back into ministry. We are currently hosting six different teams from New Zealand, Maui, Kona, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore. Each team has played an essential role, serving in humanitarian aid, Bible distribution, evangelism, food ministry, school outreach, and children’s ministry. We have also sent teams to pray with wounded soldiers in the hospital.
There has truly been no lack of need. At times, teams have been sent out last-minute to safety camps to distribute donated food, blankets, jackets, and other supplies to help families stay warm and cared for during this challenging season. We are continually reminded how God brings the body together to work for His good.
Prayer Requests
Safety: Pray for peace, protection, and wisdom for Cambodia and Thailand
Renewal : Pray for displaced families that they would experience Jesus, comfort, provision, and hope.
Healing: Pray for healing & forgiveness from trauma and for hearts to be softened toward reconciliation
Missionaries & Church Leaders: Pray for our teams, missionaries, and local leaders for strength and endurance.
Gospel: Pray that the love of Jesus would be clearly seen and felt in every outreach
Funding: I have lost some funding as the new year started. Please pray for new supporters and sustained income. I use my funds not only for myself but also I partner with families here to help local Khmer missionaries for hospital visits, and education for local children. If you or anyone you know would like to partner with me and the missions work I am doing please let me know.
Thank you for walking with our team in prayer. Your support means more than words can express. We are so grateful to be part of this family of faith, trusting God together in every season.
-With love and prayerful gratitude,
Alexis Muñoz
